San Cristobal Island
Our last day in the enchanted islands was full of excitement. Early in the morning we went on a power walk nearly to the summit of Punta Pitt, at the easternmost edge of the archipelago. The view from the top was stunning, the color of the water the black and brownish lava rocks, the white sandy beach — it was like a beautiful painting with our vessel anchored right in the middle of this marvelous view.
We saw a big colony of Nazca boobies as well as the beautiful and colorful red-footed boobies.
After we walked back down to the beach we had the best of times playing with very playful baby sea lions, these creatures just went nuts playing and jumping out of the water. Kids, teenagers and adults all had a great time enjoying their company.
The snorkeling around Leon Dormido was definitely the highlight of the afternoon. These spectacular tuff formations came up from the bottom of the sea millions of years ago and are a great place to see sharks, sea turtles and more. My group saw a big group of Galápagos sharks mingled with black-tipped reef sharks as soon as we hit the water! Some of our guests also had a very good close up with a hammerhead shark and we were all really excited. A lot of the guests got excellent footage of the event.
Once we were all back on board our Captain took us around the impressive rock and as we were enjoying a complimentary cup of great champagne, we spotted two or three Bryde’s whales that were wandering in the area.
What a wonderful way to end up our dream trip to the Galápagos Islands!
