Alphonse Islands, Seychelles

We arrived early and went out as soon as possible before the tide dropped. We explored St Francois on walks; looking for more birds while beachcombers found hundreds of shells that were inhabited by hermit crabs of all sizes. We even witnessed a fight between two hermit crabs, one pulling the other one out of his shell in order to get a bigger home. Going back to the ship the water had nearly gone out of the lagoon and we all enjoyed a little walk to the Zodiacs in the shallows surrounded by schools of mullet.

Later on we enjoyed some snorkeling and diving behind the reef barrier, where everyone could see green and hawksbill turtles, myriads of yellow and blue fusiliers, moray eels and damsel fishes. The dive was fantastic too; being gently taken by the currents along the drop off, we could see big gorgonian fans, barracudas, Napoleon wrasse, nudibranchs and lionfishes.

In the afternoon the ship drifted by Bijoutier Islands where we had more snorkeling where a big nurse shark and a big sting ray could be spotted. Our day was then rewarded by a well earned sundowner at the tiny island of Bijoutier and some fresh sashimi, the fish being just caught in the afternoon by the Captain and galley crew.
