At sea to Zanzibar, Tanzania

After an amazing full day with three landings at Aldabra yesterday, we were woken up by Richard announcing a little group of pilot whales. Rushing to the bow, where a lot of us had gathered already, we could enjoy the pilot whales, gently moving through the deep blue sea, not bothered at all by our presence.

At 07h30 the sun was bright, the air was warm and the sea really smooth with no wind ripples. A few hours later the bridge changed the ship’s course, as they had spotted some activity on the horizon.

On our approach we could see red-footed boobies, frigates and terns, all feeding on a school of fishes helped by spinner and spotted dolphins. As we sailed through, we were joined by a group of about 15 dolphins swimming and jumping in front of the bow including a female dolphin with a very young calf.

The rest of the afternoon was really calm and a little flock of red-footed boobies joined us on the radar mast for an afternoon nap between catching flying fishes.
