Drake Passage

After the excitement of yesterday in the Drake Passage today was a welcome change in sea conditions. We awoke to find that the wind and seas had abated quite a bit. There was still some residual swell associated with the large low pressure that stretched from the Antarctica Peninsula all the way to Cape Horn, but the ride was quite comfortable. The talks and presentations that were delayed from the previous day were given and the expedition leader and Captain talked about the previous day’s events and how the other cruise ship was faring. There was time to get a slide show of collected images from guests and show them at the Captains farewell cocktail party.

The late afternoon and early evening had the National Geographic Explorer approach the southern islands off the coast of Tierra del Fuego. The sky was dotted with clouds here and there and a few seabirds made their way by the ship to see if we were a fishing boat dumping morsels over the side. We were not and those birds would fly by and then off to destinations unknown. It was a good time to reflect on the wonderful expedition we had just enjoyed to Antarctica and all the memories created during this amazing experience.
