West Sahara
Sand!
Yes, it is what most of us think of when you hear the word Sahara. This massive desert, the largest of all. Stretching from west to east as a band across Africa. A barrier to many things, including animal species and human migrations. A stunning landscape, incredibly harsh at times, but beautiful. The many shapes of the dunes; here, reaching down to the cobalt sea. This sea, rich with fiddler crabs and flamingoes, such a contrast to the sparse desert life visible to us.
For us today, luxury amongst the sand. Comfortable travel, not camels, but 4X4’s. A bit of fun traveling in the deep sand, then we arrive to our postcard perfect encampment. Cold drinks, overabundant platters of delicious food, and comfy cushioned seats. Musicians sing and dance all with a stunning background of a massive white dune in a blue bay. Surrounding us in the sand, many remnants of long ago civilizations, certainly not living the way we are today. For us, a quick visit to this nearly mythical land of the Sahara. We visit in pure comfort, enjoying this place that could be so uncomfortable.
