El Hierro, Canary Islands

Lovely day, early now, a little rain, but there was more sun as time went on. Everyone went to tour a place we have not gone before, El Hierro, Canary Islands. There is not much tourism here it is so off the ‘beaten track.’ Instead of exploring El Hierro, I went diving. I talked with folks when they came back. I was jealous, it sounds like there were a lot of flowers and great views. The Canary Islands are unique, most of their plants only occur here and they were all showing their best.

The dive was nice, no place special, just near the ship. The island is known for diving. I went to 40 feet, and found it was pretty with a sandy bottom. I found a couple of species of fish: Turkish wrasse (the super male ran away, left the ladies behind to their fate) a black-tailed comber, and a grouper that was very interested in knowing what was going on. But best of all were the strange things in the blue water: comb jellies and Siphonophores, hard to tell where their tops or bottoms are, we know but it is impolite to ask.

It is over now, Captain’s farewell, miss you all, many whom I know, some whom I just met. Leif, our Captain, spoke very well about what we did and why we do it, a little sad, but there is always tomorrow. Yesterdays and tomorrows, I get a bit confused and that is the fun of it all.

And so, this day ends, until tomorrow and tomorrow and always yesterday. Goodbye my friends and hello, like a door, but more like a window.
