En Route to Ushuaia
Last night’s full moon gave way at dawn to another sunny day. Once again, our incredible weather demanded sunscreen and sunglasses. We are on our final sea day and in between packing and meals we gathered together to build a portfolio of photographs to be shared by one and all. Chatter filled the room as we shared our memories while attempting to choose our best photos from a trip filled with bright sunny days.
Suddenly, the spray of the waves turned into Peale’s dolphins coming alongside for a quick bow ride. They leapt from the sea and followed behind us turning complete flips in the air.
Jon Bowermaster treated us to a talk on his Oceans 8 project, which reminded us of our days kayaking in the bays of Antarctica.
Black-browed Albatross have been our companions all along our voyage but today it was as if they sat and waited for us to approach Argentina. Fifty or 60 albatross sat in the waves as we sailed on toward our port of call.
The photo team magically sorted all of our images and played them throughout our farewell cocktail party. Then on to Captain’s dinner with all of our new friends.
There are experiences that we share that make us more than who we were. The smiles we shared slid into laughter and tears as our hearts experienced the utter joy of being surrounded by nature doing what it does best. One gleeful guest replied, when asked how his pictures were coming out, “I really don’t know, I’m too happy to focus!”
