At sea
Today was a day of transitions. We left Africa behind and are heading towards Europe. We left behind the wonderful ancient civilizations of Egypt and are moving on to the Minoans. We are transitioning from the modern Egyptian society, enthralling, exotic, at times chaotic, and preparing for Greece and the European Union. We are leaving behind very sandy and dry desert habitats and heading to a much rockier, “Mediterranean” ecosystem.
Days at sea are spent in many ways. Relaxing, catching up on writing or photos, and attending various presentations by the staff. Today was filled with lessons on underwater archeology around Crete, photography tips, and an introduction to the Minoan culture. Days at sea can also be about wildlife, but it is pretty sparse in this part of the Mediterranean, and combined with the choppy sea state, limited our sightings today.
However, a fiery sunset was a glorious ending to this day of transition.
