Floreana Island
We started with an optional wake up call to visit the “Post Office” and its famous barrel. It is a mail system that started more than 200 years ago. Some of us were lucky enough to have some of these letters addressed to few blocks from our houses! The tradition calls for hand delivery…so we took them.
Then, breakfast came and after eating, we got ready for a Zodiac ride around Champion Island, in search of the rarest of the Galápagos mockingbirds: the Floreana mockingbird. After success and 10 spotted creatures, we went back on board to get dressed for the best snorkeling of the week! We got to see sea lions, colorful tropical fish, octopus, rays and diving boobies.
Lunch was a must as we were hungry. Also, we needed more energy for the afternoon kayak activities, and the hike along the largest lagoon of Galápagos. The greater flamingoes were our target and we got to see them; they were as far as they possibly could be from us, but we still spotted them…
We ended up on an incredible white sandy beach known as Flour Beach, with turtle nests and frigates all over, waiting for the babies. Quite a lot of drama to finish a great day in these islands!
