Punta Vicente Roca & Fernandina Island

A spectacular dolphin dance woke us up today…The inspiring volcanoes in the horizon and the sweet breakfast promised another good day in paradise.

We navigated from the northern hemisphere towards the Equator. Everybody danced the Limbo as a new tradition in our crossing of the line. Then a panga-ride started: all kinds of seabirds, sea turtles, flightless cormorants, marine iguanas, Galápagos penguins… and a swim around the ship as a refreshing ending of the morning.

Once back on board, we then we crossed the Bolivar channel that separates Isabela from Fernandina. Fernandina is the most pristine island in the tropics, without a single mark of human presence…Its volcano, “La Cumbre,” is still active on its western side. We had the most incredible walk among lava fields, sandy nesting sites and sea lion colonies, together with a textbook example of adaptation and evolution: the Galápagos flightless cormorant.

It really was a full day for all.
