Floreana & Champion Islands

When we woke up this morning, the sun was really shining, and everyone was excited to start with our new activities. The first thing we did was go to the Post Office Barrel on Floreana Island. This is a historical site where a man named Hathaway erected a wooden barrel in 1793 as a post office for passing ships. At first, passing ships were whalers; today, they are mainly visiting yachts and tourists.

The idea of this post office is to take and hand deliver postcards without a stamp. Our guests look for cards addressed to someone in their hometown. If they find one, they take it and deliver it personally, as has been done for centuries.

After our visit, we had breakfast and waited for the moment to visit Champion Island. We looked for the Floreana mockingbird, a subspecies which is in danger; only a few pairs still survive on this tiny Island.

The highlight of this adventure was the curiosity of sea lions, who came very close to us as soon as they saw the zodiacs. It seemed as if they were inviting us into the sea to play and swim with them. Many birds flew around us and we tried to take their picture.

In the afternoon, everyone wanted to go kayaking at Punta Cormorant. We saw sea turtles and sea lions following us. The walk in this place at the white beach was very relaxing.

We had a moment to see the beautiful view before everyone returned to the boat for a nice BBQ dinner. Some danced the Cha Cha Cha, taught to them earlier by our Wellness Specialist Maribel.

This day was so fascinating that we cannot wait to see what tomorrow holds for us as well.
