Española Island
Another day in paradise. Early risers had a kayak session that they will never forget! We saw Galápagos sea lions, some tuna fish, boobies, and crystal clear waters in Gardner Bay, on Española Island. Breakfast was waiting for us. Then we used our land disembarking crafts (a.k.a. Zodiacs) loaded with snorkelers to enjoy snorkeling in the wild. We observed many fish species and more sea lions that seemed eager to fulfill the wildest dreams of their observers.
Some guests opted to go to the white coralline sands of Gardner Bay, made mainly of pure parrot fish droppings…walking, resting, and swimming… everything under the sun. There were as many sea lions as any one could count: newly born pups, young males and dedicated mothers.
The highlight of the day came in the afternoon, following an incredible lunch that we had on board. On Punta Suarez, a very rocky trail with boulders and bottomless crevasses led us to the land of the Albatross. The mighty waved albatross nests on this very island and nowhere else in the world. We found an egg, probably abandoned by its mother.
Many Nazca boobies and some blue footed boobies were nesting along the trail as well. We did not miss the powerful Galápagos Hawk either. Punta Suarez was a golden finale for our expedition this week around the Galápagos.
