Punta Vicente Roca
The western side of the Galápagos Islands is by far an awesome place. This geographical location has benefited by an intricate convergence of sea currents that make this area prolific and therefore very interesting.
During the morning we crossed the equator and everybody was fascinated by “seeing” the line – on the GPS, of course. Many pictures were taken and we had a merry moment, just a preparation for what later on would be a great Zodiac ride. In addition to that, all our guests enjoyed greatly the safety talk about kayaking, and they started to foresee when this activity would take place.
The Zodiac ride brought us to a first class contact with the pacific sun fish, a manta ray and an innumerable amount of sea birds. Sea turtles were also found on our path as well as penguins, huge marine iguanas and cormorants.
It is one thing to see sea turtles from the Zodiac; it is quite another to get surrounded by them while snorkeling. And that was exactly what happened! During the snorkeling we couldn’t help but to almost intersect with them at every turn, since they were everywhere. It was outstanding!
During the afternoon we had a smooth navigation, and we had a very interesting time looking for whales, sea birds and an exciting landscape of the eastern flanks of Wolf Volcano. We also had two interesting talks, one on the bio-geographical settings of the archipelago and another on how to make nice field photography. All of us were entertained and had the chance to learn a great deal on several subjects, and we finished our day being very happy.
