Isabela & Fernandina Islands

After our wake up call, we went for whale watching and we were delighted with two Bryde’s whales around the area, still before breakfast. Our navigation continued and we had breakfast while we approached the equator line; then King Neptune visited us and some of our guests drank the infamous Iguana Blood, upon crossing the Equator line…

We reached Punta Vicente Roca on Isabela Island and our panga ride gave us a big reward…an orca whale showed up and was the attraction of the day. Its big dorsal fin showed it to be a male that slowly swam along the coast. A variety of wildlife, including Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, sea lions, and sea turtles were the surroundings to this beautiful ride.

Once back on board, we changed gear and headed back to the water. Snorkeling was the perfect way to end the morning’s activities, with Pacific green turtles, sea lions, and so many species of fish that even the panga riders were excited…

Fernandina Island is the most pristine island in the world; no animals have ever been introduced to this island. We met new lava flows where marine iguanas pile up in great numbers, flightless cormorants, sea lions, including a mother with her pup, and bright red crabs. Our afternoon walk was relaxing and fulfilling.

The sunset was delightful, and after dinner the stars were competing with the moon, in light and attractiveness, while we learned a bit more with our star gazing presentation…
