Bartolomé & Santiago Islands
In the early hours of the day, we anchored in front of Bartolomé Island and the first thing we did this morning was hike to the top of this island. We started before breakfast to enjoy the first light and the fresh air of the early morning.
This is one of the best places to learn about the different volcanic features that built this island, and the archipelago. We arrived to the top and our effort was well rewarded, as we had the most spectacular and famous view of the archipelago.
We returned after our hike and replenished our energies back with a delicious breakfast on board. We left the ship after being instructed and fitted with snorkeling gear. We headed ashore for our first contact with the underwater world of Galápagos. Everybody did great for their first time. As a big surprise, we encountered Galápagos penguins, white tipped reef sharks, and lots of fish.
We left Bartholomew after a great morning and sailed towards Santiago Island. Our afternoon was full of options; we went kayaking, snorkeling, and strolling along the beach. We also had the option for a hike that took us to the interior and the coast of Puerto Egas where we saw Galápagos fur seals resting. Galápagos marine iguanas were also a highlight as we encountered several groups sunbathing while others were swimming back to the coast.
As we returned back on board we had a very colorful sunset with the outline of the volcanoes from Isabela Island in red color.
