Bartolomé & Santiago islands

Beginning the day climbing a volcano at 06:30 in the morning? You must be kidding me! Well, we were not surprised to hear this. We were also aware of the mind transformation that our guests pass through once the visit is over and, as we expected, the transformation took place. Once one climbs to the highest point of Bartolomé Island, and sees the spectacular view of pinnacle rock and all the surroundings, it is impossible not to forget about time, about space.

Everybody was with high spirits when we performed a wet landing at Pinnacle rock beach and went snorkeling. It was a sublime experience. Seldom have we seen so many fish altogether in such a little area. At some point it turned difficult to swim – well, is an exaggeration of course – for we were enclosed by fish of so many colors, of so many sizes…

Later on at Puerto Egas, on Santiago Island we enjoyed the presence of the Galápagos hawks. The creatures were flying all around very close to us, performing their very peculiar cry like call. What were they doing? Who really knows, but for sure it was a sort of a blessing for all of us; especially when they passed so close over our heads that some of us ducked down thinking that they may collide with our humanity.

The tide was receding and little by little some algae was getting exposed. Hundreds of iguanas were resting along the shore line, and we doubted whether they would make any attempt to go eating, considering it was late already. But as the day ended, we also understood that even though this could be taken as an understatement, “tomorrow will be a new day” and the iguanas will go and scrape the algae off the rocks.
