Bartolomé & Santiago Island
In the Galápagos Islands, time runs. There are so many things to see, so many adventures to live that we have to take advantage of every second. That is why early in the morning at 6:30 we disembarked to our first activity. Climbing Bartolomé is an amazing experience. There are 372 steps to arrive to the summit but every single step is worth it, as the view gets better and better. At the top there were no words to describe the beauty of the scenery. We recovered our breath and slowly, with the pleasure of having arrived to our goal, we started going down to a very well-deserved breakfast.
Sun started shining, which was perfect as the rest of our morning we enjoyed the beach of Bartolomé and its waters. There were activities for everyone… either walk over the dunes to count sea turtle nests, snorkel around the pinnacle rock with sharks, penguins and sea lions, or just lie down and relax!
In the afternoon we visited Santiago Island. This place makes us really proud as Lindblad has adopted the island to help it with donations going to conservation programs. Feral pigs and feral goats have been eradicated. And today we can see how little by little the island is getting recovered.
We enjoyed of a very nice walk along the shore. Marine iguanas were all over, shore birds came to feed on the tide pools. Sea lions were the stars of the show, and at the end of the walk on a lava tube that had reached the sea we found the second species of sea lion in the Galápagos Islands… the fur seal.
It was a full day! But every second we enjoyed the islands and their wonders.
