Española Island

Today is our last day and it started with a visit to Gardner Bay, where we had very good snorkeling with sea lions that were playing hide and seek with some of us in the cold water (72 degrees F). Ten minutes after, we were ready to visit a long coralline beach and meet the biggest sea lion colony yet, leaving most of our excited guests to enjoy the sand and the sun of the Islands. Then we had lunch because we were very hungry.

The afternoon was spent on the West side of the island, at Punta Suarez. We saw Sally light-foot crabs, Galápagos mockingbirds, Darwin finches, American oystercatchers and more hawks along the beginning of the trail, only a few minutes away. We also met the famous Galápagos marine iguana from Española, the most beautiful iguana of the Islands.

Our hike was in the search of the albatross. During the entire walk we met blue footed boobies, Nazca boobies, and tropic birds as well, all nesting at the same time. Finally, we met the albatross, the most magnificent bird of the Galápagos…We saw babies, and an adult jumping from the cliff. It was a wonderful end for our trip.

Tomorrow we say goodbye to these magic islands…
