Bartolomé Island & Santiago Island

Early this morning, before breakfast, we were already off to visit the most striking island in the Galápagos. Bartolomé it is an open book for geology where you can take gorgeous landscape photos and learn as well. This is the heartbreak hike to the summit of Bartolomé Island. The reason: this is the most scenic island in the Galápagos. With our optional walk of 372 steps high to the top, this small but impressive island provides a great view of most of the others. It was breathtaking.

Back on board we had a well-deserved breakfast and once with our energies replenished, we were quickly ready for the beautiful golden sand beach and water activities. Today we snorkeled with penguins, sea lions and lots of different types of fishes. Back on board and after a refreshing shower, we enjoyed a typical Ecuadorean lunch. This was roasted pork with potato tortilla, ceviche (sea food), and chili sauce. It was a great display of different, exotic flavors from all over the country.

In the afternoon once we arrived at James Island, some of our guests went kayaking; while others had a wet landing on a black sandy beach. From there, we went on a hike at James Bay. We saw Galápagos fur seals, marine iguanas, shore birds, etc. This is one of our favorite islands, with spectacular a volcanic tuff formation, black lava flows, human history and great landscapes.

Back on board, our bar on the sky deck opened and we had a great time sharing some fish and penguin stories from today.
