Post Office Bay & Punta Cormorant

Today was another charming day in the Galápagos Islands, the best natural paradise in the Pacific. We started our activities early in the morning as we arrived to the Post Office Barrel. It was such a great experience to see all these post cards of people from different parts of the world. We saw them all, grabbed some and placed ours inside the barrel.

As we came back aboard the National Geographic Islander, we had a delicious breakfast, the first one of the year. The morning just got better during the snorkeling activity. This is one of the best snorkeling days I have ever had in my life. There were so many fish that it was hard to move our hands and not touch them. There were huge schools of hundreds of them surrounding us all around Champion Islet.

As soon as we got into the water, four white tipped reef sharks surprised us as they were resting at the bottom of the sea floor. As we kept swimming we saw colorful king angel fish, razor surgeon fish, giant damsel fish, and parrot fish that were all over the place. The most exciting moment was a manta ray passing by, feeding on the plankton. It was the most perfect morning we could ever imagine!!!

The day just got better in the afternoon. As we arrived to the salt water lagoon, there were a lot of very colorful flamingos so close to us that it seemed that we could touch them by stretching our arms. Some of them were eating, others were resting, and some others singing; just a perfect symphony for us.

On our way to the second beach, the trail was surrounded by finches and warblers. Once at the other side, there were a lot of sea turtles resting outside of the water that made it look as a dreaming landscape in paradise. The journey ended with a good relaxing moment on the beach with a little time to take a swim surrounded by playful sea lions.

Dinnertime was the perfect moment in our a wonderful journey, as we had a barbecue on the sun deck while watching the full moon lighting the spectacular shape of Devil’s Crown. What a spectacular beginning of the year around the Galápagos Islands!!!
