Gardner Islet & Punta Suarez, Living at the Edge…

This morning a group of nine kayakers went out early to Gardner Islet without knowing that it was not going to be an ordinary day. Back on board for breakfast the news came out: a tsunami was approaching the Galápagos Islands and we had to suspend our activities for the morning. Our captain decided that we had to leave to open waters and navigate around Española Island. From the distance we could witness the force of the ocean, sending beautiful waves to break on the volcanic rocks. A few hours later the alarm was lifted and our guests had a relaxed morning after all. Our Wellness Specialist, Maribel, performed an extraordinary job today.

At Punta Suarez, we were delighted by the naivety and enchantment of nature. The Galápagos hawks were mating and the lava lizards were exhibiting sexual displays as well. We witnessed the battle of two young male Galápagos sea lions that were trying to get the female’s attention, but they were not impressed at all. The cliffs were impregnated by the white “artistic painting” of the Nazca boobies and Swallow tailed gulls. There, very close to the edge, many chicks were impatiently begging for food from their parents.

Wearing their green and red breeding costume, the marine iguanas came all the way up to the cliffs, as professional rock climbers, leaving all our guests impressed.

Today we learned a lesson from nature: life is so short that we have to make the most of it, and enjoy it every day. When you go back home, take a day just like the sea lions do, rolling at the beach and making new friends.
