San Cristobal Island

This is our last day in the Galápagos Islands. We wanted to take the most of our remaining time – and indeed we did! Early in the morning we had a wet landing on the north side of San Cristobal Island, soon afterwards we headed inland to climb an old volcano with a dramatic landscape and land birds as well as seabirds.

We explored a place on the island called Punta Pitt. At the beginning we climbed and later on, once on top of the volcano, we walked on flat land and among some patches of green vegetation. At this time of the year it is common to see most of the islands green due to the rains. This rainy season brings food for the small land birds and you see them all around. Some of them feeding their chicks and others carrying out their courtship displays. After all there is a lot of food and overabundance means babies!

Once we concluded the visit we had time to swim from the beach and later we went to explore the deep-water snorkeling site. When jumped into the water we were surrounded by sea lions and beautiful fish typical of tropical waters.

By the time we finished snorkeling we still had time for a Zodiac ride. During the ride we were amazed by the numbers of seabirds on a small island off the shores of San Cristobal. In less than thirty minutes we counted about ten different species of marine organisms. Among them red-footed boobies, frigate birds and the charming Galápagos sea lions.

In the afternoon we explored Kicker Rock. Here we went to snorkel and some of us saw sharks, sea lions and sea turtles!

Just amazing!
