Española Island
The morning was overcast; however it promised to be a great day. We learned more about this beautiful paradise by visiting one of the best places on Española Island, Punta Suarez, located in the westernmost side of the island, where there is a high degree of endemism.
Since the very first moment we set foot on the concrete jetty, a welcome committee received us: sea lions, marine iguana, lava lizards, crabs, Hood mockingbirds, blue-footed boobies, and more. As soon as we started to walk we realized that everywhere we looked there was a living thing; it is hard to believe how a creature that probably looked absolutely different a thousand years ago, can still exist here. We cannot forget to mention the waved albatrosses, such fascinating creatures, graceful and unique in the world only to this island. Nazca boobies, Darwin’s finches, and -footed boobies were part of our delight.
In the afternoon we had different water activities, such as: glass bottom boat, deep water snorkeling, kayaking, snorkeling for beginners from a beautiful coralline white sandy beach, where our guests were surrounded by the most graceful marine mammals, sea lions. From the glass bottom boat people spotted several species of colorful tropical fish, also different kinds of sea stars.
This lovely day’s time is fading, and by no means will be back, but we know that new adventures await for us tomorrow.
