Santa Cruz & Sombrero Chino Islands
Today was great day to continue exploring this wonderful place, the weather conditions guaranteed us a good day; the sky was clear and no wind was blowing.
Our first outing took place on the north-western side of Santa Cruz Island; the place is known as Cerro Dragon due to the dragon-like Galápagos land iguanas that live in these areas. The morning was perfect as we sighted several of these magnificent creatures. The sun was rising fast, and at the same time the temperature of the air rose such that by the time we were heading back to the ship we were all ready to prepare for the next activity which had to do with getting wet.
We had the chance to snorkel at Guy Fawkes islet, far from the place where we were anchored. The water was perfect and the amount of wildlife was so pretty.
In the afternoon we repositioned the ship to a place called Sombrero Chino Island, where we had different options of water activities such as snorkel, kayaks, and beach. The kayakers were surrounded by a spectacular landscape: on one side, Santiago Island with that fascinating candelabra cactus forest, and the other side was Sombrero Chino Island itself, where some of our guests landed on a beautiful coral white sand beach where they shared the space with some sea lions.
Something that I cannot forget to mention is that this place is one of the most stunning sites to do snorkeling, conditions permitting, due to the white sand bed, and transparent water. Here we saw a marine iguana diving! There were all types of animals in different sizes and colors; this afternoon we showed that the human being can coexist together in harmony in this amazing underwater realm.
