Bartolomé & Santiago Islands
We anchored at Bartolomé Island in the morning and visited the most impressive scenery of the Galápagos Islands. That’s why we had a special request for departing at 6:00 a.m. These early walkers were able to see the first light of the morning from the summit. Soon the pre-breakfast groups followed suit. You may wonder: why the foodless rush? The answer is that Bartolomé is in the center of the Galápagos Islands. We were able to see eight different islands in all their glory, from distant Isabela to the baby volcanoes of the Daphnes. It was well worth it. Breakfast was served on the Teak Deck and I particularly enjoyed the Ecuadorian plantain patties. Once our energy was recharged, we enjoyed the most incredible snorkeling ever. Sharks and sting rays were only matched by Galápagos penguins that swam just few inches from us. It’s hard to believe how friendly these little birds can be.
The afternoon was spent on Santiago Island. The shores were filled up with life. Many baby sea lions are now left alone by their moms and spend a good amount of time paddling around, playing, jumping and swimming. We had the pleasure to meet this family of American oystercatchers. Maybe next week we will get to meet the babies. The end of the day was very pleasant.
