Floreana Island

We continue with our expedition in the Galápagos. This is our second full day in this wonderful paradise which contains a great diversity of species and landscapes with unique features.

We woke up today at Floreana Island, and our visit transported us back 300 years when whalers explored this island searching for food sources and water. We got the chance to learn more about the human history of the Galápagos which encompasses a lot of unsolved mysteries!

We also got in direct contact with nature by doing some aquatic activities, and later walks on the island. In the water we encountered large schools of tropical fish, sea turtles and sharks; the weather was really splendid and the water temperature was so warm that it became almost impossible to take some of our guests out of the water. Added to that was great visibility, a good time playing with sea lions and discovering the underwater world of this site.

During our walk we found beautiful flamingos in the lagoon of Punta Cormorant and sea turtles mating off the beach; their tracks were visible up into the dunes, which they made on their way back to the water after egg laying. The volcanic landscape of this place is really special as well. We saw the same volcanic cones that caught the attention of Charles Darwin when he visited this island in 1835.

Some of our guests decided to accompany these activities with a kayak exploration and with some beach time to swim and relax.

The day was great and we are looking forward to what comes next in these Enchanted Islands where you never know what to expect!
