Bartolome & Santiago Islands
We spent a fantastic day on these islands. We started the day off with a pre-breakfast outing. At 6:30am, we set foot on Bartolome Island. We hike up to 360 feet above sea level to the summit of a small volcano. Some of us were very interested in the geological features, some other were just enjoying the wonderful scenery. Once on top we observed the breathtaking landscape of the nearby islands. We put special attention to the famous pinnacle rock that stands out in the horizon.
Just after breakfast we had a second landing on a beautiful golden beach. We practiced water activities such as snorkeling, swimming, wading, or relaxing around the sticky sand Bartolome is famous for.
Navigation followed soon after lunch to Santiago Island, Lindblad’s adopted island. We had a wet landing on a black sandy beach and most of the kids on board went swimming and snorkeling. A walk followed soon after, to the grottos, the hideout place for Galápagos fur seals.
Opportunity knocked many times today for pictures, natural history explanations and relaxation. Our day finished with a wonderful sunset.
