Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino

We continued our expedition visiting the northwestern corner of Santa Cruz Island. During the morning we hiked on Cerro Dragon. A beautiful shallow lagoon, located some feet away from the landing spot, serves as temporary home for several birds’ species. One of them is the Greater Flamingo. The striking coloration of these birds contrasted in a magical way with the characteristic dominating dry forest of this place. Along the way we observed some big male land iguanas and the blooming prickly pear cacti as well.

Later in the morning we snorkeled in Guy Fawkes Islets. In this place there is a beautiful huge underwater wall where we observed many fish species and many kinds of invertebrates. The always playing and cheerful Galápagos sea lions were around us as well. The rapid and acrobatic movements of these marine mammals were a true delight to observe.

Sombrero Chino and the Bainbridge islets, our destination in the afternoon, are a paradisiacal group of volcanic islets surrounded by the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. This beautiful location was at is best today, for the wind was very calm, allowing us to deeply explore the surroundings.

We had several options:
Some guests went snorkeling for a second time in the day and had a great time for they observed white-tipped reef sharks and Galápagos penguins.
Some other guests decided to board kayaks in this peaceful area and had a blast of a time for they could not stop praising their experience of being in intimate contact with Nature.
Some others opted to take a late Zodiac ride to take advantage of the best light conditions of the day.

We came back on board eager to share our experiences with our fellow travelers and friends. A breathtaking sunset was a golden finale for another successful day in our expedition around this paradise.
