Cerro Dragon & Sombrero Chino

We started our morning with a walk on Cerro Dragon, located in the northwestern part of Santa Cruz Island. The name of this location is quite significant for it is Spanish for Dragon Hill. There are many Galápagos land iguanas that live in this area that resemble miniature dragons.

Beautiful weather accompanied us during the walk. We observed some land iguanas getting active while warming in the early morning sun. At this time of the year, the vegetation around Cerro Dragon is starting to get greener. The first rains of the season have already fallen. Later in the morning we went for our first snorkeling of the day around Guy Fawkes Islets, an incredible snorkeling site loaded with life and colors.

In the afternoon, we got ready for our second snorkeling outing of the day. We headed to the surroundings of Sombrero Chino. This volcanic cone has a peculiar shape that resembles a Chinese Hat. Snorkeling was superb. We observed many different species of fish, sharks, rays, eels and even Galápagos penguins! Some guests decided to explore the area kayaking or taking Zodiac rides.

Finally we all came back onboard with many new memories and impressions from the interesting places we visited during the day.

Isolation and adventure, what a great way to spend holidays!
