Floreana Island

It is wonderful to be in such weather. Today we visited the island of Floreana, and we found nature here as incredible as that on the previous days.

An early visit in the morning for a short walk took us to Post Office Bay, where a barrel has been used for mailing letters for centuries. Many travelers had the opportunity to take news for their homeland, to deliver in the near future.
Once back on board we had breakfast and repositioned to an islet called Champion, where our highlight was the opportunity to swim and snorkel among hundreds of colorful reef fish, in the clear, warm tropical waters, at one of the very best snorkeling sites in Galápagos. Those who preferred to stay dry also got the opportunity to explore using our glass-bottom boat.

Upon dropping anchor in Champion, and before the water activities, we departed to do a coastal exploration aboard our fleet of Zodiacs, during which we successfully found one of the rarest birds in the world: the Charles mockingbird.

Later in the afternoon, after some time spent kayaking along the coastline of another part of Floreana Island, we landed on the green beach of Punta Cormorant and we swam with sea lions and fish until our hike took most of us to a brackish water lagoon inhabited by flamingos and other shorebirds. At the end of the trail we visited a white sandy beach made up by the tireless activity of parrot fish munching on coral.

It was another wonderful day in paradise!
