Espanola Island

Today we arrived to one of the most beautiful islands of the Galápagos archipelago, Espanola Island. Upon disembarking we were welcome by Nazca boobies, blue-footed boobies and swallow-tailed gulls. We saw the most beautiful marine iguanas in the Galápagos as well, the Espanola marine iguanas. One of the most amazing sightings of the day was the observation of some marine iguanas swimming out at sea to feed on algae. Today, the tide was very low; therefore it was the best time to observe these extraordinary reptiles.

After a safety talk on snorkelling activities we had the most amazing lunch: an Ecuadorian feast! And then, after a quick nap, we all enjoyed the very warm waters of Gardner Bay. We had many activities. Some of us visited Gardner Islet, to practice deep-water snorkeling, some others went to the beach to learn to snorkel for the first time, and it was great to see how many of our guests actually mastered these skills in no time. Some others guests went kayaking until six in the afternoon.

All came back onboard with the sincere feeling that today we experienced the perfect way to start our first full day in this paradise!
