Bears at Pavlof Harbor
One of our younger guests spotted playful Dall’s porpoises riding the bow as we made our way through Icy and Chatham Straights this morning. We anchored in Pavlof Harbor and, soon after, two bears wandered onto the beach.
They were jovial as they walked down the shore, looking over their shoulders at one another. Was it a mother and cub? Maybe it was two siblings. Our questions were soon answered when the two began to mate and continued throughout the rest of lunch.
It was a clear afternoon as we made our way to shore to hike and explore by kayak. Making their way past the waterfall and up the stream, the hikers came into a beautiful clearing with a view at Lake Pavlof. More than one bear track was among the many muck boots prints.
It was a delightfully sunny and warm week, full of amazing wildlife and fabulous people here aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird.
