Bahia Magdalena
We woke up to a calm and pleasant morning, anchored at Boca de Soledad. Early risers climbed into Zodiacs and set out in search of the magnificent gray whales who graced us with their presence yesterday. As the day brightened, we found several mother gray whales with their calves alongside. The second round of whale watchers was treated to an adult whale that breached repeatedly very near the Zodiacs. What a wonderful finale to our whale watching!
We pulled anchor and headed south through Hull Canal. After lunch we anchored at the south end of Magdalena Bay. Some chose to take Zodiac rides through the maze of mangroves and others explored the area in kayaks. We were all richly rewarded as we spotted the yellow-crowned night heron, the great blue heron, the spotted sandpiper, the long-billed curlew, the eared grebe, the wimbrel, and the marbled godwit, just to name a few. A bird watcher's paradise, yes siree!
Well, the week has been packed full of experiences that we will treasure long after we return home. Sailing through this beautiful part of the world, we have been fortunate to see many different species of whales, birds, and mammals, and the spectacular sunrises and sunsets were truly wonderful. We have eaten scrumptious food, from local Mexican dishes to fresh fish and ahh, the irresistible desserts. And best of all, we started this journey with new faces and are ending it with new friends.
