Cabo San Lucas & San Jose del Cabo
Dawn found us in the southern reaches of the Peninsula of Baja California, still inside the Gulf of California. Almost immediately after breakfast we were observing humpback whales, small groups of males following females for mating purposes. These males were fighting among themselves to be the lucky mate. Different were groups were seen, and at times we were literally surrounded by them!
On we sailed, and espied a good pod of common dolphins. We watched them for a while, but they were probably in their “quiescent” state, resting after a bout of feeding…
By late morning we were in the Bay of Cabo San Lucas, where we tied to the dock and almost immediately took off in buses to San Jose del Cabo, where we separated in two groups: birders to the estuary, and those that were more interested in shopping and seeing the center of the old town, with its old church built in 1730.
Mid-afternoon found us leaving the bay again, and taking a good look at Friar’s Rocks of Land’s End. Then we turned the “corner” and were out in the Pacific Ocean, just waiting for the sunset which (of course) was marvelous!
