Manuel Antonio National Park, Costa Rica
We started our day at Manuel Antonio National Park, located on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. It is approximately 4,014 acres and the smallest of the national parks in Costa Rica, but certainly not the least beautiful. This national park was created in 1972 and is home to many different species of mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles. Each inhabitant of this park finds a perfect area to remain undisturbed.
Right after the national park opened, we left the ship to explore the trails. One of the groups took a walk on the cathedral trail while another group of guests took the wonderful sloth valley trail. These trails turned out to be fantastic, showing us the huge biodiversity of plants and trees that Costa Rica has to offer.
Nature is unpredictable, but this time we had the wonderful opportunity to appreciate the behavior of some great species like squirrel monkeys, white throated capuchin monkeys, mantled howler monkeys, brown throated three-toed sloths, red eyed tree frogs and green and black iguanas. Early in the morning most species were very active in their natural habitat, sometimes feeding or just moving around. That is the main reason why we were there early to see them.
The afternoon was very sunny and relaxing. We enjoyed the beach at Manuel Antonio and watched the landscape while our ship was anchored in the bay.
It has been a great season in Costa Rica and Panama, we really treasure all the great memories and unique moments interacting with our natural world.
