Delphi

The moment we woke up, we rushed upstairs to enjoy the view of Mount Parnassos and Delphi from the distance. The weather was very unusual for September; it was raining and the dark clouds had covered Mount Parnassos. We started our tour early in the morning and despite the unwelcoming weather we were surprised to discover that we were almost on our own in the archeological site, facing Apollo.

We enjoyed the site, climbing towards the stadium, visiting the treasuries of the different city-states, the stoa of the Athenians and the imposing temple of Apollo. The theatre reminded us of the musical competition of the Pythian Games where you were awarded a wreath of laurel.

The museum is always impressive with its golden and ivory artifacts, the classical statue of the Charioteer, the most venerated work of art from Delphi.

When we returned to the pier we discovered that beautiful weather was waiting for us. We sailed through the Corinth Canal and the blue sky, with its playful clouds, enhanced the beauty of the landscape. We sailed past Nafpaktos where the famous battle of Lepanto took place in the 16th Century. The breathtaking bridge of Rio-Antirio was ahead of us at the edge of the gulf; it resembles sails of ships blending smoothly with the blue sea and sky.
