Española Island

The week has started! We just had a splendid day at the island of Española with a lot of sightings and a lot of memories. The time between seven in the morning and seven in the evening has been overwhelming. The last twelve hours of our lives has been spent between beach walks, sea lions, iguanas, boobies, albatross, frigate birds, snorkeling and swimming! Excuse me if I forgot the food, believe me, we are not starving here!

If we asked everyone on board what was today’s highlight, we would probably end up with a thousand different answers! Sea lions among the favorites of course, but to me, I have to say that the albatross made my day! The morning outing at Punta Suarez led us to the albatross landing areas. There were few albatross chicks on the way and some parents were arriving at this time to feed them. It was just pure luck to be around at the right time, in the right place, to see their behavior and the manner in which the parents feed their chicks. We stood there for a few minutes, more than only watching, we were observing, we were learning. I left the place with the pure satisfaction of seeing something that I have never seen before, and that really made my day!
