Bartolome Island

Today this beautiful island was as its best. Bartolome has only 0.5 square miles surface area. Despite its small size, it is one of the most admired by our visitors. A wonderful blue sky together with the sun shining made the perfect combination for an unforgettable beach morning. Early in the morning before visiting the beach we climbed to the summit of the highest point on the island. From there, at a height of 114m (374 feet), we enjoyed one of the most spectacular views of the Galapagos Islands. Impressive geological formations with earth colors contrast dramatically with a pure and clean blue sky and with a deep blue ocean. After a well-deserved breakfast we disembarked on a stunning golden beach. Some of our guests had the unusual opportunity to swim and snorkel with Galapagos penguins! Others watched white tip reef sharks and green Pacific turtles just a few feet away from them in very shallow waters. The famous Pinnacle Rock pictured today dominates the scene. This rock is a trademark of the islands. In almost every good book about Galapagos you can see the picture of this extraordinary formation. The pinnacle rock constitutes the remains of a very old and eroded tuff cone.
