Española Island
Talking about sea lions is one of my favorite pastimes in the Galapagos. There is so much to say about them, and even more to learn about their behavior and natural history. Sea lions seem almost human in so many ways, therefore observing them is intriguing and fun, especially if it is on Gardner Bay, the most wonderful turquoise beach on these islands, located on the eastern corner of the oldest island, Española. This species of sea lion was recently classified as an endemic species to the Galapagos, so we have one more mammal unique to the “Encantadas.”
The Galapagos sea lions are my true friends. Sharing the beach with them is as great as sharing the beach with my own family, three members of which are now visiting my second home, the M/V Polaris.
