Hood Island

With the advance of the hot, ‘rainy’ season, we found ourselves spending a rare day in ideal temperatures both in the water and on land.

Our walk this morning, although sunny, blew a gentle breeze, allowing us to spend maximum time absorbing the activity around us. When following our trails, it is important to sit quietly, listen and observe all around you whenever the opportunity arises. Even when there appears to be nothing, the eyes start to absorb everything and the mind puts the finishing touches on the painting around. The blow hole! The swallow-tailed gulls! All the ages of the Nazca booby, from egg to large chick (see photo)! The Galapagos hawks hovering above! All became a part of the painting today!

This afternoon’s water at Gardner Bay was 80°F! After an hour of snorkeling, it was hard to get our swimmers out. Transparent water and a clear sky created excellent visibility and views of spotted eagle rays, a lobster and fish with colors that put the finishing touches to a day that was a work of art.
