Fernandina Island

Today we entered the westernmost part of this Archipelago, which is also the richest area of Galapagos due to the upwelling of the Cromwell current. This current brings lots of nutrients to the islands, therefore this is a good place for cetaceans. We saw two species of dolphins today, bottle-nosed and common dolphins.

In the afternoon we visited Punta Espinosa in Fernandina Island. Our guests had a great time in communion with all the species that inhabit it, like bunches of marine iguanas over the pahoehoe lava flows, and of course sea lions “the stars of the islands”.

As they are stars, they love to be in our pictures, posing and smiling for us. Don’t you think this is a great specimen? He probably has a bright future as the beach master of a Fernandina sea lion territory. We’ll have to come back to see.
