Santa Cruz Island

It is hard to believe that we are already half way through our Galapagos experience. In a place like this, time seems to fly in a hurried speed. The first strike of watching blue-footed boobies, marine iguanas and sea lions had passed, but nobody knew what it would be like to see giant tortoises for the first time. It was nice to observe the amazed faces of our guests when they first spotted these ancient, gigantic reptiles at the Charles Darwin Research Station (CDRS). Since the beginning of the CDRS many sub-species of Giant tortoises have been saved from extinction. Many programs to eradicate introduced plants have also been successfully achieved. The CDRS is a non-profit, non-governmental institution, entirely dedicated to the conservation and preservation of the most affected flora and fauna of this famous archipelago. It was a great pleasure to us, as guides of the Galapagos National Park, to see how our guests showed so much interest in the conservation of such a unique place on earth.
