Bartolome Island

This is the last day of our trip in Galapagos. Our guests are very sad because they have to leave behind these enchanted islands. They have good memories, like swimming with sea lions and white tip reef sharks and also many saw hammer head sharks. Who can forget the blue-footed and red-footed boobies, and the Nazca booby’s babies?

Today we visited Bartolome Island, a very small island with beautiful landscapes. Bartolome is a very young island with craters here and there. After the walk we had the opportunity to swim and snorkel in very warm water (around 82°F) and it was perfect. We snorkeled with many tropical fish and sharks. While everybody was swimming near our ship, the Polaris, many birds came to visit us, particularly a young brown pelican that was learning to catch fish. Feeling so tired after moving against the current, he decided to have a break on one of our Zodiacs. This bird spent about ten minutes watching the Zodiacs and everything that we have inside, like it was saying, “what are all those things that these strange creatures use?” Our Expedition Leader, Cindy Manning, very quickly took a picture and the pelican posed for the picture like a famous movie star. What a good show!
