Santa Cruz Island
So far, our trip has gone as smoothly as we could possibly wish for. Better than we could have hoped for, in fact! Everyday has held a new experience for everyone. It is enlightening to travel to places where you can relax and think of different worlds, so absolutely removed from one’s normal experiences; forget the mundane and known details of familiar daily routines, try out the new. It’s even better if you can do all of the above and learn something at the same time. That is the case in the Galapagos Islands.
Conservation is a necessary topic for discussion in a place like this. It is easy to get immersed in it, when everything that surrounds us has been achieved due to a tremendous and active conservation effort. Today, while visiting the Charles Darwin Research Station, we learned about the different conservation programs that have been created in order to preserve the flora and fauna of these precious islands. To top it off, we had a special guest lecture from Roz Cameron, public relations representative from the Station. She told us that this year they plan to launch a major campaign for the restoration of the islands of Santiago and Isabela!
