Floreana Island
For those of you that are following our daily reports, last week on April 1st, I left you a note at the end of it encouraging you to keep in touch on how the albino sea lion pup is doing. Well, I have good news. She is alive and in good health! Early in the morning we were looking for the pup and her mom but couldn’t find them. Later while snorkeling we finally found the albino. This beautiful creature became the most solicited and photographed. It is certainly difficult to not fall in love with this unique animal. Today I made some interesting observations. The albino was found without her mother in a different location. Last week it was in Post Office Bay, today it was sleeping quietly near shore on Champion Islet four miles away! Its head was wet. In some parts, especially on top of her back, the fur is very white. This sea lion is giving us a lot of information. It is naturally marked by its peculiar coloration and we can track it. Events like this make me reflect about my stay on the islands. Sometimes I have the impression that words are not enough to express the deep inner feelings that this magical archipelago provokes in me. As a naturalist I feel fortunate that for some years I have had the privilege to interpret and share the wonders of the Galapagos with many visitors. Every single day is fantastic, some days are extraordinary, and many of these days will be printed in my mind forever. Today is one of these days. We have had so many different and beautiful sightings that even the most demanding expectations were completely fulfilled. From playing sea lions and white tip reef sharks swimming with us while snorkeling, to breathtaking volcanic landscapes, unique plant and animal species, this day is one of these days to remember.
