Floreana Island

We started early this morning with a pre-breakfast outing to visit the post office barrel, which is one of the oldest mail systems in South America. A delightful custom, which survives to the present day, it originated in the days of the whalers. Due to protracted voyages, often lasting anywhere from one to five years, the sailors found it expedient to establish a sort of post service, unofficial and friendly, but not on a regular schedule. Today, this tradition continues with the help of our guests. So, if you see a post card or a letter addressed to someone who lives close to your house or city, you may take it with you and hand-deliver it.

P.S. The little female albino sea lion pup is doing fine in Champion.
