Española Island

Today we had a nice and wet day. The rainy season is still around, and although we had very wet visits today, the animals on the island were very active. We saw a couple of Galapagos hawks and a couple of waved albatross mating. Yes! There are more pairs of albatross on land, courting and getting everything ready to start nesting. They are coming back!

There are 13 species of albatross in the world. The waved albatross is the only one that nests in the tropics. Española is a very flat island surrounded by high cliffs and strong winds; nice conditions to become a kind of airport for these big sea birds.

In the afternoon we had snorkeling activities on Gardner bay and had the opportunity to see some tropical fish and sea lions lying on the beach.
