Genovesa Island

Today is the grand finale for a great week. Like in fairy tales where the treasure is always found at the end of the story, our guests found their treasure too: Genovesa Island!

Being one of the many jewels of the Galapagos crown, Genovesa stands out for its location, beautiful landscapes and the incredible number of sea bird populations, home to almost a million birds.

Early in the morning our captain and his crew got us inside of an extinct volcano. Its caldera is the only remnant of that geological feature. Part of the rim of the caldera has collapsed at its southern most end, forming a natural underwater channel, which our captain used as a gate to enter into one of the most pristine islands of the archipelago.

Right after breakfast we landed on a beautiful coral beach, where the view of frigate birds skydiving to steal food from boobies were among the favorite things to watch. The equatorial sun shone at its best, making snorkeling and swimming sound like a very good idea to all of us.

Genovesa is without any exaggeration one of a kind, where everyone’s expectations can be surpassed. To sum it up, every day in the Galapagos has been just great! We’ll be leaving tomorrow and returning to our homes, with our heads full of new memories and our hearts full of new feelings for these wonderful islands. But the best of all, those memories and feelings won’t ever leave us, and whenever we want, we can summon them and experience the fairy tail all over again and we could say, “I was in Galapagos, once upon a time…”
