Española Island
What a wonderful day! This morning we were walking among several colonies of very active blue-footed boobies. They were courting, dancing, building nests, and some of them taking care of an egg already. I am very happy to see the island full of blue-footed boobies. Now, they finally are coming back to nest on Española Island. Everybody is paying attention to birds in general, but not all of us observe the egg, which is also very important because it’s from the egg that the bird originates. The shape of the egg plays an important roll during the incubation time. Do you know that bird’s eggs come in eight different shapes? And each one of them are very important. For example, eggs with conical shapes allow that the eggs can be packed together in the nest so that they all receive warmth from the parent bird, and blue-footed boobies lay their eggs with this particular shape. By any chance if you have the opportunity to see or check an egg, pay attention to the shape that it has, because that way you will know the specific function of such shape.
