Floreana Island

Early in the day we started with a very beautiful blue sky. In the morning we had some water activities around Champion Islet. We were amazed by the amazingly clear water and the big number of fish we spotted. Sea lions performing a nature “show” were stunning today and for many of us, including me, they were the highlight of the day. There is a very big colony of Galapagos sea lions on this island. Many of the juvenile sea lions were in the water this morning with us, and they were really playful. When they saw the snorkelers coming they decided to join them. Some sea lions were teasing some of our guests by getting up to their faces and then veering off very fast. With these quick movements they just leave behind an astounded observer startled and surprised, but with an unforgettable memory. Baby sea lions were bubbling into peoples’ faces, some were chasing people, and some others were even biting their flippers. At one point they seemed to be having more fun than we were!

Later in the morning we did a Zodiac ride around the island. We saw many beautiful birds, but the stars were the young sea lions again. A group of at least 15 of them decided to follow us all the way around. They were jumping out of the water, trying to steal our attention. According to their happy faces and cheerful comments I think that all our guests today had one of the most wonderful experiences of their lives.
